Routine Eye Exams

At the Orlando North Eye Clinic, we are proud to provide you with complete, preventative, and cutting-edge care to maintain your optimal eye health for years to come. To begin a lifetime of clear vision, we start with a comprehensive eye exam in our clinic.

What is a Routine Eye Exam?

A routine eye exam is an important step you can take to screen for any potential vision problems. Maintaining your eye health requires regular eye exams. Even if you are not having any vision changes or symptoms, Dr Sheraly encourages you to schedule an appointment with him to review for any potential risk factors or concerning questions.

What Does a Routine Eye Exam Include?

A routine eye exam at Orlando North Eye Clinic is personalized for you. Generally we begin by addressing any concerns you may have. We complete a comprehensive eye exam which may include checking your vision under various conditions, checking your eye pressures and checking your eye reflexes. Dr. Sheraly will examine your eyes under a special Slit Lamp Microscope to examine your eyes in depth. It may also include dilating your eyes for a closer look at various anatomical structures in the back of your eye. Throughout the process, Dr Sheraly will be using his clinical skills to assess for any potential abnormalities in and around the eyes. Dr. Sheraly will also be working with you to develop a custom plan that will work for you to ensure you maintain healthy eyesight and habits.

When Should You Have an Eye Exam Done?

It is important to have an eye exam any time you have any difficulty with your vision or concerns for your eyes. However, for those not experiencing any visual difficulties, it is recommended to have a full check. Recommendations usually vary by age and other risk factors, but if you are over the age of 40, you should have a routine eye exam  annually.

In addition to these general guidelines, Dr. Sheraly recommends that you schedule a routine eye exam if you:

  • Have Diabetes
  • Have a family history of ocular conditions like glaucoma or macular degeneration
  • Experience poor night vision or sensitivity to light
  • Have dry eyes
  • Notice any changes or fluctuation in your vision

Any of these symptoms could indicate a more serious ocular issue, so if you are experiencing them you should book an appointment with Dr. Sheraly as soon as possible. As he often says in clinic to his patients, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

How long does a Routine Eye Examination Take?

A comprehensive eye exam at the Orlando North Eye Clinic normally takes 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your specific condition. You should expect to be dilated at that visit to allow for the most comprehensive exam of your eyes. During this time, Dr. Sheraly will go through different tests with you, discuss your findings with you, and will work with you to develop a follow up plan that works best for you.
